# Carbon Emission Factor Database for a Leading Lithium Battery Enterprise

Pain Point

Complex lithium mining and processing workflows with scattered emission sources, large deviations in generic databases, and reliance on external consulting for product carbon footprint accounting with long cycles and high costs, failing to meet downstream battery factory and EU CBAM disclosure requirements.

Approach

Collected real-world emission data across the entire process on-site, built a custom carbon emission factor database for the lithium mining industry, and developed a product carbon footprint modeling and automated accounting system combined with LCA methodology to achieve cradle-to-gate lifecycle carbon traceability.

Built a custom carbon emission factor database and LCA accounting system for a leading lithium mining enterprise, achieving precise modeling and automated product carbon footprint accounting across the entire process of lithium mining, dressing, and lithium salt processing.

## Challenge

Lithium mining and dressing involve multiple high-energy processes such as blasting, crushing, flotation, acidification, and lithium precipitation, with complex emission sources; generic LCA databases lack lithium-specific factors, leading to deviations of over 30% in accounting results; product carbon footprint accounting has long relied on third-party consulting, with a single cycle taking over 45 days and costing high fees; downstream power battery clients and the EU CBAM mechanism have increasingly strict requirements for the timeliness and traceability of carbon footprint data.

## Solution

Conducted deep on-site measurements in mining areas and production lines to build a custom database of over 1,200 carbon emission factors covering energy, materials, transportation, and fugitive emissions; built an LCA accounting system based on ISO 14067 and GHG Protocol, supporting one-click modeling, automated accounting, and report generation for cradle-to-gate product carbon footprints, with data traceable to every process step.

> “Having our own factor database and LCA system allows us to calculate the carbon footprint of our lithium products clearly, accurately, and quickly for the first time, without being bottlenecked by external agencies.”
